the Team

alain Alain Pastor | After studying psychology — and nearly becoming a professional footballer — Alain worked for over 13 years in the newsroom at the French TV channel, TF1. After that he co-founded Pix&Mix, a development studio, to develop multimedia applications. It was during this period that he become an accomplished programmer, proficient in different languages, all the while working on technical documentation and localising software.

At mogWerks, Alain looks after programming, most notably Javascript, adding AJAX goodness to our developments. He also works on production sites, documentation and French localisation.

jonathan Jonathan Munn | Although he is of British origin, Jonathan has lived in France for over 20 years.

He had a wide-ranging experience in the Graphic Arts Industry, working as a freelance designer, then as a studio manager for different advertising agencies, before becoming an art director in his own company format utile.

Since moving on to web development he has applied his skills to creating an Open Source CMS application for creating multi-lingual web sites, as well as spending his days shouting at the cat.

In his spare time he runs green, an increasingly popular french-language musicBlog devoted to independent music.

At mogWerks, Jonathan provides graphics and design, as well as PHP coding. He also writes and provides localisation services in English.

mog, the Cat

mog_portraitMog is a small black cat, and the mascot of mogWerks. Mog, or Moggie, is, of course, a common nickname for cats, and black cats are well known for being lucky.

In actual fact, the name Mog comes from the Text2HTML translator that is used in mog*cms. It was initially called transmogrifier, as it magically transformed text to well-formed (X)HTML. From transmogrifier, the name was changed progressively to Moggie, and then Mog.

And of course, there is the famous quote from Albert Einstein:

You see, wire telegraph is a kind of a very, very long cat. You pull his tail in New York and his head is meowing in Los Angeles. Do you understand this? And radio operates exactly the same way: you send signals here, they receive them there. The only difference is that there is no cat.

The company name came about because we work with Mog. And Mog works for us. Or at least, we hope so.
